Designing the Landscape – Living libraries
Matthew O’Grady is a proud member of Master Landscapers of SA. He and his team regularly attend those workshops and events to keep up to date with trends, codes and the latest products and plants. Matthew’s passion for enhancing his landscape knowledge also finds him visiting other local and interstate events both for his own pleasure whilst adding to his ideas for his clients. Matthew designs and constructs outdoor rooms or “Living Libraries” to create living memories for those people using them to enjoy and to suit their lifestyle.
To achieve success with designing the landscape, whether it’s a residential garden, an Aged Care Facility, a new garden, or a renovated outdoor space, a detailed plan is required. In the same way that every new home, needs an individually tailored plan, so does a well designed garden or outdoor space.
The plan takes into account all the details needed, such as;
- Survey and logistics
- Site preparation
- Plants to be used, including number and size
- Materials, construction levels
- Timeline
- Feasibility
- Retaining walls and drainage
- Soil types
- Cost calculation.
- Council approved plans – when required
- Consultation with other Trades when required eg. Plumber, Electrician
Consultation
Our plans take into account all aspects of the property including:
Where is north and south for optimal planting, seating or other structures required such as steps, paving, water features, lighting and irrigation. Every plan is customised to meet the client’s brief. Our job as landscape designers is to increase ideas, inject possibilities, create interest and excitement.
We love to inspire using the 5 senses: Taste, Sight, Touch, Smell and Hearing, in creating outdoor living spaces. We like to call them Living Libraries. Nothing makes me happier than hearing a client tell me they “love their new garden and how much joy it gives them and their family, and friends”. It makes all the time spent on planning and the actual physical work, very worthwhile.
For every dollar spent on a well constructed landscape design, the return can be threefold. What price though, can be placed on enjoyment, stimulating the 5 senses and improving quality of life?
As these plans are unique to your landscape, they are available in hard copy. All consults are done on site with all owners present. Whilst the plan is yours, it is copyright to Matthew O’Grady Landscape Designs.
Your budget is an important aspect of the planning stage, so have a budget in mind. Discuss this plus any aspect that you may be considering to do yourself. This way we can plan according to your needs. Plans can be done in stages.
